Dear Society / Mr Hodgkin,
We have just been clearing my mother-in-law's house, Elizabeth nee Gorton, grandaughter of Canon Gorton ... and an inscribed tray (from the parishoners of Morcambe to their rector) inspired interest. My own daughter (GGGdaughter) then came across your talk on Saturday.
The centre says it 2-4pm - but if my wife and I came from Bristol,we will be rather pressed for time (when will it really end?) as we have commitments back here early evening ... How much will you be mentioning about Canon Gorton? It is a family story that Elgar wrote a few lines of manuscript for Canon Gorton which he titled 'Ode to Tobacco' and which my late mother-in-law lost in a house move some 30 years ago ... I understand there were no copies. Have you heard such?

09/05/2010

Dear Sir

With reference to your letter dated 28/04/2010, reference no:09/72129/002

I wish to make my comments regarding the proposed development of Oak Tree Drive, Emsworth, Hants.

I reside at no 2 Oak Tree Drive, and have been here for the past 15 years.

I wish to forward the following points;

48 new dwellings have been proposed. Based on the presumption that most households now have at least 2 cars the increased traffic flow along this quiet residential road will be in-tollerable. There are several families with very young children who live here and they currently play in relative safety outside their homes. By adding extra homes and through traffic their freedom will be impaired and their safety compromised.

I believe it was proposed to have only one entrance to the new development at the western cul-de-sac, but this has been changed to 2, to include the eastern cul-de-sac. I am appauled that the residents recieved no notification of this proposed change, and by no means are we in agreement to this. The road lay-out will lead to congestion, there is quite an incline from the cul-de-sac into Oak Tree Drive which leads directly into the lounge of no 3a. The light polution at night for those residents would be intollerable. The noise pollution for all immediate surrounding residents, of which I am one, would also be in-tollerable. We chose to live here for its peace and quiet.

I also believe that an emergency access road would be created. This would only add to the "race-track" already proposed.

Surely, in this day and age with environmental issues at the fore, we should be looking at preserving our green areas. The area of proposed development encroaches onto HollyBank Woods...a haven for animals and birds...and humans. There will be damage to trees and wildlife and we should not allow this to happen.

This area is already poorly served by many services......public transport, schools, shops, doctors, dentists, places for youngsters to go, to name a few, By increasing the local population you will be putting even more pressure on the infra-structure, possibly leading to increased crime and damage to existing properties.

We have a severe drainage problem in Oak Tree Drive already. By adding the extra dwellings this will add to the problem at the expense of the exisiting residents.

Obviously, the current residents of Oak Tree Drive enjoy living here because it is a quiet, safe place to live.

We chose to live here for those reasons.

This development will destroy that.

yours

Ann O'Clee

Am concerned that Birch Tree Drive will become a 'rat run.' There is already a tricky bend at the top end.
Concerned that some buildings will be 3 storey which must impact on views of homes in Long Copse lane.
Concerned about 'play' areas for 'older' children. What form will this take, will it encourage 'loittering?'
As Westbourne school may be the prefered choise for some families, will adequate, paved footpaths be provided to access Long Copse Lane?

To the Editor/Committee,

I have today communicated my objections to Havant Borough Council with reference to the proposed development at Hampshire Farm and in addition to the excellent points raised in your flyer, I believe there is yet another valid point to be made and it is that of the lack of facilities for older children/youths in Emsworth and the surrounding areas. Those of us who have lived in Emsworth for some time are all too aware of the steadily growing problem of youths congregating in the park by Horndean Road and the Railway Station to consume alcohol, many of them below the legal age. There is little doubt that these young people view consumption of alcohol (followed very often by lewd, anti-social and at times offensive behaviour to passers by and train travellers) as a form of entertainment in the absence of anything better. My worry is that the provision of 280 homes has the potential to very quickly swell the numbers of youths, who are perhaps more acustomed to a "livelier" environment) aimlessly wandering through the streets and gravitating to the park and train station to exhacerbate the present problems still further. The police, despite their best efforts have still not yet managed to eradicate this problem and I fear the worst should this development be sanctioned.

Regards
B Puszkar

Ref Hants farm site.
Has any consideration been given to the mains water pressure. Recently an engineer at my property (86 New Brighton Rd) noted that we had very low pressure. what effect, if any, will this development have?

Sewage /drains. New Brighton rd has suffered in recent years. How do they propose to channel sewage (hopefully not utilizing the existing infrastructure on New Brighton Rd).

Traffic speed abatement. Once again no mention. With two children under 6 attending St James I'm constantly worried. (one incident this week resulted in my wife contacting the police).

Primary School Places. I personally asked about the effect of the development to the head of St James school some months ago. He replied that he was aware of the proposed development, however was not the closest school. (bury head in sand approach). I have submitted questions to planners and as yet have had no reply.

happy to discuss
