Final Public Ratification July 2007

YOUR help is important to the future of Emsworth.

Please read the document carefully and fill in a response form.

Process

This document will shortly be submitted to Havant Borough Council for formal approval. Before this happens, the EDS must be ratified by people who live and/or work in Emsworth. It is therefore important that we demonstrate to HBC that the document is widely supported by our community. So please encourage your friends and neighbours to read it and hopefully ratify it.

Once adopted, the EDS will be an advisory planning document which will be used as a material consideration when planning applications are assessed by HBC's Planning Management Committee. The content must therefore mainly deal with planning and design issues.

Please note: Some of the pictures and maps are draft copies only and will be replaced before publication.

Your Role

Ratification

After reading the document, it is hoped that you will be in broad agreement with it and will ratify it by ticking the appropriate box on the response form provided.
There is also space on the form for comments of a substantial nature, such as errors, inaccuracies and/or inconsistencies.

If, however, you feel unable to ratify the document, please give your reason(s) for doing so.

All comments will be recorded. Comments requiring further action by the Core Team will be acknowledged.

The deadline for responses has been extended to 15 August 2007

After all the responses have been processed and the pictures and layout finalised, the EDS will be submitted to HBC.

Purpose and Origins of the Emsworth Design Statement

The purpose of the Emsworth Design Statement (EDS) is to give the residents of Emsworth a real say in its future by providing a supplement to the Borough Local Plan which reflects the views of Emsworth on design matters, and so serves as a guide for its future development.

  • It is a document being written by the residents of Emsworth NOW.
  • A small team of residents have been meeting regularly since autumn 2003 to discuss the structure and content of the design statement.
  • Once approved by Havant Borough Council, this document will have to be taken into account by planners, developers and residents.

    First Public Viewing

A first public draft was exhibited at: International House, The Square, Emsworth on 10th and 11th February 2005.

    Next Stage

The EDS has been redrafted several times since then as part of a lengthly consultation process. The 7th draft was sent to HBC officers for yet more discussion (Spring 2007)

The Emsworth Directory site also has material about the EDS. Thank you Philip Gale

Emsworth Online Also has a section on the origins of the EDS. Thank you Grant Thomas.
