St Richard's Update, posted 30 April 2008

Thank you so much for your support to date - over 15,000 people personally wrote to the PCT and over 136,000 people signed our petition.

Under Fit for the Future, there are currently three models of hospital service being considered:

For full details of the above options please visit: www.southeastcoastfff.nhs.uk/home/west-sussex.aspx

On May 7th at Clair Hall at 10am in Haywards Heath we will be told which model is going to be used for hospital services in West Sussex.

On 4th June at Effingham Hall at 10am, near Crawley we will be told whether St Richard's in Chichester or Worthing Hospital will be made the MGH for West Sussex.

These meetings are open to the public and we would welcome your support at them.

We understand that you have already written, petitioned and marched but it is essential that you continue to make your views known about maintaining full emergency services at SRH by e-mailing the PCT: Fitforthefuture@westsussexpct.nhs.uk or telephone: 0800 707 6975.

What happens if we do not keep full trauma A & E at St Richard's as well as full Maternity and Paediatrics? We will be looking at Judicial Review and will do all we can to ensure the right decision is made.

Community Street Audit

There is a clearly established case for encouraging people to walk or cycle around town instead of using their cars. The case for cycling was documented in A Strategy for Cycle Route Development in Emsworth published by Emsworth Community Board in March 2007. This should be read in conjunction with this report.

The cycling strategy report was presented to local government transport officers who recommended that the needs of pedestrians should also be considered. They proposed that a Community Street Audit should be carried out to provide a comprehensive list of improvements that would encourage more people to walk and cycle around Emsworth. Such a list could form the basis for a formal Town Access Plan for Emsworth which would be consulted when funding for highways projects became available.

Emsworth Community Board undertook to carry out the Street Audit with the help of other Emsworth residents. All those who took part were volunteers. Planning for the Street Audit took place during the summer of 2007 and the street surveys took place in October/November 2007. Conclusions from the audit were consolidated and published in March 2008.
