Cricketing Success

Emsworth Cricket Club has had a highly successful season.  The 1st XI became Hampshire Cricket League (HCL) Regional Division One (South) champions winning their last 10 matches.  Team member Lee Johnson said; "It has been a great year for us with consistency the key to our success.  There are no superstars.  Everyone is chipping in at important times and doing his bit.  We have gone from strength to strength and deserve promotion into County League Division Four.

The big difference for us this year has been the fact that whenever we found ourselves in trouble, someone has come through with a match-winning performance."  The 2nd XI struggled for success for the most of the season but through determination and enthusiasm for the Club ended on a high and should remain in HCL Regional Division Three (South East) next year.  The Mid-Week and Sunday teams both won a high proportion of their matches.

ECC works hard to promote the amateur sport of cricket in Emsworth and community participation in the same.  We are grateful for the financial and material assistance from Cubitt & West, The Gift Box, Oyster Design, Bio Bubble, Something Special, Sandell Builders, Mike Reed Tree Services and Key2signs in their support of the Club in 2004.  Furthermore, the provision of first class hospitality in The Coal Exchange has enhanced the enjoyment of all involved.  Research on the history of Emsworth CC, is being undertaken by Lee Johnson (07815 817164) who would love to hear from anyone with data.  More information on the Club's activities can found at www.emsworth.play-cricket.com and hopefully in future issues.
